If you are about 6'7", apparently you do not fit comfortably into my Saturn.
I got to cart around one of our med-student interns this morning, and he was nigh folded up double in the passenger seat. I felt bad for the strapping young lad so I set him free at lunch.

I found a nifty tool for people who enjoy libraries. It's a searchable database of a bunch of libraries' collections called WorldCat. You can even narrow it down by zipcode!
From the website:
WorldCat lets you search the collections of libraries in your community and thousands more around the world. WorldCat grows every day thanks to the efforts of librarians and other information professionals.
You'll find popular books, music CDs and videos—all of the physical items you're used to getting from libraries. You can also discover many new kinds of digital content, such as downloadable audiobooks.
So, go and thank your librarians.

I am to casually mention that we (O. U. Improv!) have a show on the last weekend of September (specifically the 29th).

Do you guys remember Folding@Home?
I used to fold non-stop (literally) for the Motherboards.org forum team. Then I moved, lost Internet, had to reformat, and forgot about it.
I just started again 3 years later. Now I'm folding for a different team on a forum I'm reading with regularity. (No offense to mobo.org people, if any of you are still reading this, but the current feel of the forums doesn't fit me.)
I haven't even completed one work unit yet, but it feels nice to put a C2D to some really useful work, especially while I'm just screwing around on the web. If I had a PS3 you can bet it'd be doing some folding, too (check your xmb for Folding@Home).

Death to the Extremist is on indefinite hiatus. :-(
Although I guess if the only thing bringing down my New Year's Day is the end of a comic, I'll be having a rather good day.
Goodbye DtE. You gave me 6 years of awesomeness.

Most of you probably don't read Death to the Extremist. This is really quite a shame, as it's been hilarious throughout the 6 years it has been in existence.
I want you all to go read the latest episode, "Medical Drama," right now.

A man in a white truck pulled up to the back of the apartment complex parking lot, between two buildings, and proceeded to load the truck with doors. There were doors of all sizes-- small interior closet doors, large exterior doors, medium-sized bedroom doors. The doors were all the same color, however-- a very bad dark brown woodstain.
Alas, my camera was not charged up and so I got no pictures of Door Gathering Man. Rest assured, should he return, I will document it photographically.

The NWS dudes predicted another warm winter, though not as warm as last year's. Last year I wore my heavy coat exactly twice.
So it's October right now, and the leaves are just barely starting to change here. Nothing new, that's just how Fall is in Oklahoma.
We had to turn the heat on today. Our apartment isn't insulated at all and the windows are more like suggestions when it comes to keeping weather out. It got into the 40's outside, so it was quite chilly in the apartment this morning. It doesn't help that we left the windows partially open, forgetting when we went to bed of the cold front making its way south.
I don't mind a warm winter, but why the chilly fall? Usually the heat doesn't come on until mid-November.

Some planetary astronomer "coined" the word pluton to describe objects that are like Pluto. This pissed off some geologists, for whom pluton describes a fundamental rock formation.
A geologist even wrote a nasty letter, accusing the IAU of "hijacking our perfectly good [definition] and causing endless confusion."
The head of the Pluto committee said of the debacle that since spellcheck didn't catch it, the term can't be that important.
I can't wait to see if this dissolves into fisticuffs.

Wizard 3% Combativeness, 23% Sneakiness, 100% Intellect, 19% Spirituality | Brilliant! You are a Wizard!
Wizards are spells-casters who study powerful arcane magic. While Wizards tend to be pretty fragile, some of those spells can pack quite a punch. Unlike Clerics, Wizards aren’t as good at fixing people as they are at breaking them, so watch where you toss that fireball…
Your most distinctive trait is your intelligence. You're probably well learned and logical, if perhaps a bit fragile. | |
My test tracked 4 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender: | You scored higher than 99% on Combativeness | | You scored higher than 99% on Sneakiness | | You scored higher than 99% on Intellect | | You scored higher than 99% on Spirituality |
|
I am pretty sure I must have been one of only a few 22 year old females taking this test, for I am not spiritual at all and answered as such. Silly test! Same for the rest of the stats, too.

The first time I did this meme I'd just met Jay, and now it's coming around again (slightly different) around our 1-year mark. Let's see how things have changed! Lots more people are on my friends list this time, too!
Caveat: These will only be answered until Thursday afternoon, afterwhich I head to Chicago for the Implosion College Comedy Showcase (at which O.U.I! is playing). I'll start answering them again after that.
Leave a comment on my livejournal and... 1. I'll respond with something random I like about you. 2. I'll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you. 3. I'll name something we should do together. 4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me (or just me). 5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you. 6. I'll leave you a quote that is somehow appropriate to you. 7. I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you. 8. If I do this for you, you must post this on your journal so you can do the same for other people.

Go to Wikipedia and look up your birth day (excluding the year). List three neat facts, two births and one death in your journal, including the year.
Fun Facts:
1861 - American Civil War: The Crittenden-Johnson Resolution is passed by the U.S. Congress stating that the war is being fought to preserve the Union and not to end slavery.
1920 - Telecommunications: first transatlantic two-way radio broadcast.
1946 - Nuclear testing: In the first underwater test of the atomic bomb, the surplus USS Saratoga is sunk near Bikini Atoll in the Pacific Ocean when the United States detonates the "Baker Day" device.
Births
1920 - Rosalind Franklin, English scientist (d. 1958) 1954 - Walter Payton, American football player (d. 1999)
Death
1826 - Kondraty Fyodorovich Ryleyev, Russian poet and revolutionary (b. 1795)

I'm not yet dead, although Quantitative Analysis is doing its best to do me in. Every other chemistry course I've ever had was a breeze, so I'm going to blame it on a very, very, very, incompetent professor. Hint: Never take Quant with Dr. R. L. White. Maybe after I get this exam done I can relax enough to post again.
